Gift exchanges

Silly socks for Uncle Lou

A cool new puzzle for Auntie Pru

Candles, books, and homemade treats

Tokens of love so, so sweet

In this exchange, it’s not the cost

But rather the caringness that’s never lost

It’s the joy of giving, the joy of receiving

That makes the season so worth believing.

So whether big or whether small

It’s the love exchanged

the heart in all

In this festive, merry endeavor

Gift exchanges bind us together.

As the fire crackles, and carolers sing

Cheers to the joy that gifts can bring

In this season of love and fun

Happy holidays,

everyone!

Giving thanks

A source of grace

A way of seeing

A way of being

Finding space

In every challenge

Every sunrise

Every sunset

For in the depth

Of a thankful

Heart

There remains

A start

Of something new

Something true

For you

Okay, your turn:

For what and whom are you thankful? Does it take a holiday to remind you?

The air grows crisp

As daytime shortens

and colors burst with flame

As nature’s grand finale

Resplendent harvest’s golden mane

The veil between our world and the next grows ever thin

As spirits of the past draw near

and ancient songs begin

In the quiet of the orchard

beneath the silver moon

We feel the presence of the ones who left us so very much too soon

Their whispers in the rustling leaves

their laughter in the breeze

As we gather in the harvest, we feel a sense of peace

The pumpkins and the apples

the corn in yellow rows

Are gifts from earth and sky

as the autumn abundance grows

We honor the toil and sweat

for the seeds that we have sown

We celebrate the thinning veil, the mystical, the night

We reach out to the ancestors and the spirits taking flight

They guide us on our journey

as the path ahead grows dim

And in their wisdom

we find strength

and in their light

we swim

The air vibrates with secrets

 as dimensions intertwine

Transcendent truths and visions

are woven throughout

the harvest’s grand design

Okay, your turn:

Here’s to the Equinox

In harmonious flux

Of stillness in time

So sublime

Embrace the equilibrium

At the foundation,

and amidst the flow.

For in the heart of autumn,

spirits grow

ever so fonder

as we ponder

what is meant for us

for evermore

or less

we may confess

to opening up

to all the miracles

that all around

abound

We are bound

to

receive.

Okay, your turn:

What are you receiving during the time of equinox? Are you open to more?

The intoxicating fragrance

of jasmine

and honeysuckle

wafting through the warm, humid

August dusky air

Treading softly are we

Barefoot on the grass

Letting the tiny dewy droplets

Tickle between our toes

As we cross the ever darkening

meadow

Then so lost are we

in the magical mystery

of the steamy night

and so found are we

Held in the starlit sky’s

comforting caress

Okay, your turn:

What is it about the fragrant blossoms in full force with the night quickly approaching that is so alluring? Does this poem take you there?

Amidst this sultry realm, with nature at its prime

A bonfire blazes tall, a beacon in the night

Its crackling flames like whispers

with wisdom to uncoil

Inviting us to gather ’round and to let our spirits sail

The bonfire’s glow, a mesmerizing sight to behold

It paints the evening sky with dancing hints of rubies and of gold

Drawn in like moths, we form a circle tight

Sharing laughter and our stories

igniting pure delight.

As the embers crackle and leap

the warmth from them felt upon our skin

We find solace in their flickers, a respite from the din.

For in this fiery haven, worries gently fade away

Replaced by joy and camaraderie, where memories form and play

With friends and loved ones by our side

we find a sense of bliss,

A soft breeze with hints of revealing secrets

with every nuzzle and quiet kiss

We bask in summer’s glory, as the stars adorn the sky

And in this shared existence, our souls are lifted high.

As the night seeks out its slumber, and embers fade to gray

We take comfort in the new memories, caught within the bright display.

For in our hearts, a spark will forever reside

Always ready to inspire

A reminder of that summer’s eve

when life met all of our desires

Okay, your turn:

Whether it be memories of summer camp, or summer school, or staying up late…what does the heat of the summer time invoke in you?

June’s solstice brings

Tall flowers

and a shower or two

upon the desert

An oasis

is forming

and bubbling

beneath the surface

Oh gathering

solstice

sympathy of souls

When the sun is done

and down

Is it really ever down?

As we honor June’s solstice

may we see its shining

wisdom

among the shadows

peeking out

at us

As we journey through time and space

May the solstice’s gleam

Guide us as we weave our soul’s own dream

And esteem

Gathering steam

On this auspicious occasion

Once an earthly year

Let us smile and behold

In our soul’s delight

And welcome all wonders

seen

and unseen

With all our mighty

fire

and light

Okay, your turn:

What about June’s solstice arises in you? …anything in particular that has come into sharpened view for you this year?

The merry month of May

Oh, sweet fragrant May

you mischievous sprite

with blooms aplenty

in full delight

with playful winks

appearing in every nook

if you look

around the bluffs

and with a child’s eye

towards the sky

Embrace the wonder,

the joy,

the splendor

you may

deploy in May

And spread the cheer

of this silly poem

without decorum

In all the lovely ways

that love

may find you

And those you hold

dearly

within your heart

This day

in May.

Blink!

Okay, your turn:

And so, May… it may be the most magical of all. Do you agree?

The sun gives light

The moon receives

The moon reflects

all it can

all the light

that shines

for all of us

to receive

and reflect

back

upon one another

without doubt

without delay

instantaneous

is its response

All aglow

always in flow

without regard

to the visage

appearing in the night sky

As above

So below

It is done

It is complete

Automatic

Autonomous

and

far from

famous.

Okay, your turn:

In what ways have you noticed nature’s divine magic? Have you looked? Will you now?

Winter leaves

its traces

She shivers

as the rivers

stream through

it all

depends

on where you’re headed

or behind it all

It all depends

upon the bends

of the cave

in which you pretend

to hide

the gems

You remember

you are free to roam

among the

weeping willow trees

Do you see?

Welcome, Spring!

Okay, your turn:

What does the changing of the seasons mean to you? What, if anything, do you notice? Do you resist it, or instead ease into the transition?
